Buyers' FAQ

Questions importers ask us most.

Everything you need to know about ordering kithul and spices from Sri Lanka. Can't find your answer? Ask us directly.

01Ordering

How do I place an order?

Send us an enquiry with the products, pack format, volume and destination. We reply with a written specification and quotation. Once samples are approved and terms are agreed, we confirm the order with a pro-forma invoice.

What is your minimum order quantity?

It depends on the product and pack format. Bulk orders can start below a full container and travel as consolidated (LCL) cargo. Private-label runs need a minimum quantity per label design. We confirm MOQs in every quotation.

How long does an order take?

Kithul is hand-made and seasonal, so lead times depend on the product, volume and time of year. We give a delivery estimate with each quotation. For regular supply, we recommend agreeing annual volumes in advance so we can plan with our tappers.

What payment terms do you offer?

Payment terms are agreed for each order and set out in the quotation. Telegraphic transfer (T/T) and letters of credit (L/C) are the usual options for export orders.

02Samples & quality

Can I get samples?

Yes. We send samples to trade buyers, usually by international courier. Tick "send samples" on the enquiry form and tell us your delivery address.

How do you make sure the kithul is genuine?

We buy directly from tappers we know, record every batch by village and tapper, and check each batch for moisture and cane-sugar adulteration before it is accepted. A certificate of analysis is issued for each lot.

What is the shelf life?

Kithul treacle and jaggery are naturally high in sugar and keep well when sealed and stored cool and dry. Shelf life and storage conditions are stated on the specification sheet for each product.

Are your products certified organic?

Our kithul is tapped from naturally grown palms with nothing added. Organic certification documents are supplied for certified lots. Tell us which certifications your market requires and we will confirm what we can provide.

03Shipping & documents

Which countries do you ship to?

We export worldwide from the Port of Colombo, including Europe, the UK, North America, the Middle East, East Asia and Australia. If you are somewhere else, ask us.

Which Incoterms do you work with?

EXW, FOB Colombo, CFR, CIF and DAP. We can quote on more than one basis so you can compare.

What documents come with a shipment?

A commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin and certificate of analysis. A phytosanitary certificate, fumigation certificate and organic transaction certificate are provided where required.

What HS codes apply?

Indicative codes are listed in our product catalogue. Classification can vary by country, so please confirm with your customs broker.

04Labelling & private label

Can you pack under our brand?

Yes. We pack kithul products and spices under your brand. You provide the artwork, or we can help adapt it, and we agree pack sizes and materials together.

Will the labels meet our country's rules?

We can prepare label content such as the ingredients list, nutrition panel, origin and lot coding in the formats commonly required in the EU, UK and USA. Final compliance with local labelling law remains the importer's responsibility, and we are happy to work with your regulatory adviser.

Still have a question? Send us a message and we'll reply within two working days.
